Why Fast?

What is the purpose of a fast?
Fasting is a deliber- ate abstinence from physical gratification—usually going without food for a period of time—to achieve a greater spiritual goal. Fasting is intentionally denying the flesh in order to gain a response from the spirit. It means renouncing the natural in order to invoke the su- pernatural.

While men will typically fast for 16 hours and then eat for 8 hours, women may find better results by eating for 10 hours and fasting for 14 hours. The best advice I can give anyone, not just women, is to experiment and see what works best for you. Your body will give you signals.

Is one meal a day healthy?

Your one meal can contain up to the number of calories you need per day depending on your activity levels, and have a healthy balance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fat. You don't count calories or focus on macronutrients. Instead, you eat enough to feel full and focus on including foods from all of the food groups.

This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting' “This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” This quote, from the Gospel of Matthew 17:21, is a very powerful one. ... Fasting does not save us, of course, only Christ can save, and it is not an end in itself.
